I passed PLAB 2 without attending an academy on my first attempt! Here’s my experience

Hi everyone. I recently passed PLAB 2, so I thought I’d share my experience with it. I decided to take a somewhat unconventional approach and started from scratch with Lovaan, as I had about 1.5 months left for the exam. I skimmed through some cases from all days beforehand, but that was about it. During the class, I wrote down every single thing Dr Lovaan said in my notebooks to make my own notes. While you can easily follow the blue notes and edit them as you go, I found that writing down everything helped me stay focused and made the time pass more quickly. Honestly, Dr Lovaan’s structures were incredibly helpful to me, so I’m glad I took the class. However, I want to clarify that you don’t necessarily need this class to pass. He has a way of teaching and a way of approaching the cases which i liked, but there are other ways and they’re all valid.
I didn’t attend any academies, so I relied on YouTube videos for Simman and prescription. I passed Simman and the examination stations without practicing in real life! (A big shoutout to Dr. Faraz for Simman and GeekyMedics for examination; their videos are excellent.) I supplemented the videos with Mo shoby’s PDFs just so I have a source to revise from without having to go back to the videos.
In the last two weeks, I took two practice mocks. I found the first mock to be very helpful because I hadn’t practiced much beforehand. However, I felt that the second mock was somewhat pointless. While they provided a lot of feedback, the quality of the feedback really relied on the examiners. I even failed both mocks! Some of their suggestions were honestly ridiculous, and they actually scared me from my performance in the exam. But I trusted my own judgment and didn’t let their feedback sway me in some cases.
Thankfully, I passed 13 stations!
