Meningitis Prophylaxis

F2 In the GP.
Female made an appointment because mother in law has been diagnosed with Meningitis. The hospital told she has to get some prophylaxis from the GP for herself and 2 of her children.

When was she diagnosed.
Signs and symptoms.
Rash. Where now? Icu.

Contacts history.
Where does she live.
Does she live with you.
Who else at home.
Household.
What sort of contact’s did you’ve with the MIL in the recent past? She went for a Balling competition ) they’re at risk).
What sort of contact did the children have.
Any kissing contact?
How long ago did they’ve this contact.

Did they tell you what type of infection she has? Meningococcal / Pneumococcal / Hem
Influenza (she won’t know but she has rash. Meningococcal)
Grandchildren might have kissed the children.

General health about her.
About her kids. Any medications.
Any diagnosed conditions… kids
age is very important.
Vaccination status.

Prophylaxis.
Chemoprophylaxis (abx)
We’ll call the hospital and we’ll get the information. Accordingly we’ll give the treatment.
Rash = meningococcal.

Adults over 12. 1 dosage of Cipro 500mg :arrow_forward: vaccination. Anyone else visited?
Hem Influenza B = 4 days of Rifampicin 600mg
Pneumococcal = no need.
