NEWS | PLAB 2 Passing Station Update

Update from GMC

Starting in November 2024, the GMC will remove the standard requirement of passing at least 10 stations. Instead, the number of stations a candidate needs to pass will be calculated individually for each exam. This will be done using a regression method, similar to the one currently used to determine the pass mark.

Plabforum Impressions

The regression method has been the primary method that GMC used to set the pass score for each candidate. Now, this method is being applied to determine the number of passing stations as well.

This means the required passing stations could now be fewer or more than 10, depending on the average performance of all candidates in each exam.

This change is neither inherently good nor bad news. We’ll have more insight as future results are released, showing whether the number of passing stations has increased or decreased.

If the number of passing stations goes down, that’s good news.
If the number of passing stations goes up, that’s bad news. :upside_down_face:
